The GEI editorial team is made up of professional writers, teachers, and administrators. All having the same goal - to create original and timely articles.

Katy Bainbridge

Katy has been in the education field for more than 20 years. She’s worked as a regular and special education teacher, principal, curriculum director, and instructional coach. Katy has worked with school districts across the nation to align curriculum, develop high quality formative and summative assessments, and differentiate instruction. Katy has authored 24 books clarifying the Common Core and created a preschool product to prepare children for kindergarten.

Sandy Connors

Sandy is an educator with 30 years experience in the field, primarily as a special education teacher for students with cognitive delays, learning disabilities, and severe behavioral disorders. Most recently, Sandy has served as a differentiation and instructional specialist. She’s designed and implemented professional development on the building and district level.

Eileen Covell

Eileen retired from the Grandview Heights School District in 2014 after 28 years as an educator. The majority of her career was spent as a language arts teacher in the middle school. Eileen was Grandview’s teacher of the year in 2008, earned National Board Certification in 2001, and has presented at numerous conferences including the National Middle School.

Laura Gage

Laura has extensive experience in education spanning more than 25 years. Laura holds multiple certifications, is a National Board Certified Teacher, and serves on the Time Magazine teacher advisory board. She has presented around the country on assessment and conducting data teams.

Quint Gage

Quint is a seasoned educator currently serving as principal in a high performing school district in the state. He earned his Ph.D. in Educational Administration in 2003 with a focus on School Climate. Quint authored a chapter in the book Educational Organizations, Policy and Reform: Research and Measurement. He is also published in Educational Administration Quarterly.

Gregor Gilliom

Gregor has written for and about the Web for more than 20 years, dating back to his work as editor of CompuServe Magazine, where he created some of the earliest consumer articles about parenting and education in the digital age. Today he contributes to GEI and consults with The Ohio State University, Capital University, and other schools and colleges.

Pat has written and edited articles for local and national publications and businesses for more than 20 years, including textbook editing projects for Essential Learning Products and others. As a volunteer, she has served as a tireless advocate for improved special-needs education and for speech and hearing services.

Jill is an Emmy-nominated television news veteran with more than 13 years of writing and production experience, and 12 years of independent writing and editing expertise. Jill also works as an ELL teacher for a large suburban district.

Shyla is a freelance writer, content marketer and multimedia producer in Columbus. She holds degrees from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism and the University of Iowa. She is also a contributor to Columbus Monthly magazine.

Kelly spent the past 31 years as a special education and intervention specialist working with children of all ages. Her dedicated work earned her recognition as the Franklin B. Walters Special Educator of the Year. Kelly has worked on several STEM equity committees through the National alliance for Partnership in Equity.

She wrote for two campus magazines as a journalism student at Ohio University. The fusion of journalistic, marketing and copywriting expertise in her wheelhouse makes for a winning combination.

Barb Golub

Barb is a former Staff Developer with the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project, where she helped schools across the United States, Asia and Europe implement a balanced literacy approach to literacy education. Most recently, she worked as the Pre-K-Grade 5 Literacy Coach at Taipei American School in Taipei, Taiwan, providing high-quality, assessment-based literacy instruction. Barb is co-author of Nonfiction Chapter Books and Infusing Grammar into the Writer’s Workshop; she is currently working on a book to support vocabulary instruction within the framework of balanced literacy.
